Police have started a probe based on a note that was recovered from a hairdresser in Tollywood who allegedly attempted suicide on Saturday night in her house in Haridevpur.

The woman alleged in the note that she was a member of the cine and video hairstylist association in Tollywood, the police said.

The association had earlier suspended her for three months and at the end of that period, she was not allowed to get work on her own, she alleged in the note, cops said.

Bereft of work, she was struggling to meet her family expenses, the woman wrote before trying to set herself on fire inside the washroom of her house, the police said.

Her daughter managed to rescue her, the police said.

Calls from this newspaper to the secretary and president of the hairdressers’ association went unanswered.

Sudeshna Roy, secretary of the directors association of Eastern India, said: “This is a horrific act that forced the woman to take such a drastic step.”
