A resident of Haridevpur was found lying in a pool of blood behind an under-construction building on Banamali Banerjee Road in Haridevpur on Thursday morning.
Police suspect the man died after falling from the building.
The victim has been identified as Kalu Dey, 35, who lived in a house on Banamali Banerjee Road, not far from the spot where he was found.
“Kalu Dey ran a meat shop in the neighbourhood and was spotted entering the four-storey under-construction building around 9.30pm on Wednesday. On Thursday morning, people in the locality spotted his body on the ground behind the building and alerted us,” said an officer at Haridevpur police station.
The police said they found a liquor bottle and a glass on the terrace of the building.
“We have learned that he was having problems in his personal life and had separated from his wife. He also had problems related to eye sight. We are yet to know whether he fell accidentally or jumped to his death,” said a senior officer.
The police said Dey’s head hit the wall between the under-construction building and an adjoining building.
His family was informed about the fall before he was taken to MR Bangur Hospital, where he was declared dead.
The police said they had not received any complaint from Dey’s family till Thursday evening. An unnatural death case has been started.
