Fresh Bengal BJP list out

Of 42 seats in the state, the BJP is yet to announce candidates for Purulia and Burdwan-Durgapur

The BJP on Tuesday announced candidates for 10 more Lok Sabha seats in Bengal, including Shantanu Thakur in Bongaon and actor Joy Banerjee in Uluberia.

Of 42 seats in the state, the BJP is yet to announce candidates for Purulia and Burdwan-Durgapur. The list announced on Tuesday was the 10th by the BJP in Bengal.

The BJP has fielded Shantanu Thakur in Bongaon, where Trinamul’s candidate is his aunt and sitting MP Mamatabala Thakur. Her deceased husband was the elder brother of Shantanu’s father. Shantanu is the grandson of Matua matriarch Binapani Devi who passed away recently.

Another member of the Scheduled Caste Matua community, Mukut Mani Adhikari, has been fielded by the BJP. The young doctor will contest from Ranaghat.

Yesteryear Bengali film star Joy Banerjee will contest from Uluberia on a BJP ticket. State BJP vice-president Subhas Sarkar has been fielded in Bankura against Trinamul minister Subrata Mukherjee.

Two former aides to Behrampore MP Adhir Chowdhury found places in the BJP’s candidate list. While Humayun Kabir, who was a former Trinamul minister, was nominated for Murshidabad, former private assistant to Chowdhury, Nilanjan Roy, will contest from Diamond Harbour.

A former journalist, Rantidev Sen Gupta, will contest from Howrah.
