A fire broke out at the food court of Acropolis mall on Monday morning around 10.45 am.

Fire tenders have been rushed to the spot, which was shut down earlier after a blaze in June this year.

The blaze was spotted inside a momo outlet and the staff used fire extinguishers to dowse the flames, before the fire tenders arrived.

The minor blaze was doused immediately by the mall staff and no fire tender was required, a senior officer of Kolkata police said. "It was a very small fire and was immediately doused by mall staff. No one was injured in it. The cause of the fire is unknown," he said.

The staff and the handful of customers who were at the food court when the incident happened fled fearing that the fire could spread to the adjoining food outlets.

The mall was evacuated and a safety drill was carried out at the mall.

The mall was shut down for 49 days after a fire broke out at the third floor mezzanine floor on June 14 and was reopened on August 3 following a clearance from the fire department and the Calcutta Municipal Corporation.

After last June’s incident, the outlet where the fire broke out on Monday was opened late following restructuring. The fire directorate had suggested the mall authorities to increase the number of exhaust fans and their power and to keep provisions of more windows that can be opened, not sealed ones so that some can be opened easily in case of any emergency in future.
