Trinamul has sent senior leaders to campaign during the ongoing rural polls in BJP-ruled Assam at a time the BJP is focused on Cooch Behar where its planned Rath Yatra was blocked by Calcutta High Court on Thursday.

The BJP has concentrated all its might on Cooch Behar — senior BJP leaders including state unit president Dilip Ghosh and Mukul Roy are already in town.

Trinamul appears in tit-for-tat mode, with its key leaders canvassing in Assam where the two-stage rural polls end on December 9.

Saurav Chakraborty, Alipurduar TMC MLAwas in Dhubri and Goalpara on Wednesday. On Thursday, Rabindranath Ghosh, TMC Cooch Behar president and minister, visited Halakura in Dhubri to address a public meeting for a party zilla parishad candidate, Sahidul Rehman.

“Rabindranath Ghosh talked elaborately on the development projects being undertaken by the Bengal government like door-to-door electrification, Kanyashree, Sikshashree and the welfare measures in tea gardens,” said a TMC source.

The other issue that is being talked about by the Trinamul leaders is the emotive NRC.

“On Wednesday I visited Dhubri and Goalpara district and talked about NRC and the development projects chief minister Mamata Banerjee has undertaken in our state. If these initiatives are possible in Bengal, why is it not possible in Assam. This was the basic message,” Chakraborty said.

In Cooch Behar, BJP president Amit Shah was set to launch the Rath Yatra on Friday. However, following the Calcutta High Court ruling, there is uncertainty even though the BJP is expected to move the division bench tomorrow.

While the BJP is unsure of its much-hyped event, TMC sources maintain that their leaders would continue their foray into Assam through the month.
