A gang of miscreants fired at a youth as he tried to resist them from snatching cash, valuables, and a motorcycle from them on Thursday night.
Anish Deb, the youth, was shot in his leg and is under treatment at the Alipurduar district hospital.
Sources said that Anish, along with three of his friends including two girls, went to the Dima river bridge, which is under the Kalchini block of the district, through Rajabhatkhawa in the Buxa Tiger Reserve.
While they were returning to Alipurduar, the miscreants intercepted them. They were carrying firearms and forced Anish and his friends to hand over the cash, gold ornaments, their cell phones, and a motorcycle to them.
As Anish tried to resist, the miscreants immediately fired at him. One of the bullets stuck his leg and he collapsed on the road. The miscreants, meanwhile, fled towards Kalchini.
His friends raised an alert, seeking help. After some time, they stopped a car and took Anish to the district hospital.
On Friday, doctors conducted surgery and took out the bullet. Also, a policeteam visited the hospitaland spoke to him and his friends.
“We are trying to identify the miscreants. Our officers are also working to locate the cell phones which were snatched,” said a police officer.
Anish, who is in a stable condition now, said hecould not tolerate thehighhandedness of the attackers.
“As I resisted, they fired at me. There were around three or four of them and were unknown to us. We hope the police find them,” he said.
