The ride hasn’t been too smooth for PV Sindhu lately, but she is quite confident of making a quick comeback in the coming events leading up to next year’s Tokyo Olympics.

“There’s no reason as such (for dip in form). I know I lost in the second round (of the Hong Kong Open earlier this month), but it’s all part of the game. Ups and downs will always be there, you know…

“But I haven’t fallen down at all…

“I will come up, I know. It’s just that everyday you can’t give your 100 per cent.

“Yeah, sometimes mistakes happen, so I am working on them and I hope things go well in the coming tournaments,” the ace shuttler said on the sidelines of the Day-Night pink-ball Test at Eden Gardens.

“I have the Super Series Finals coming up next from December 11 to 15. Hope I do well there.”

Ready to grind it out, Sindhu sounded optimistic of qualifying for the Olympics.

“Well, qualifications are going on. Each and every tournament is very important and in 2020 we have a lot of tournaments like the Super Series, All England meet and then in July, we have the Olympics.

“Before that, there are a couple of tournaments and I hope to give my best in those competitions,” Sindhu said.

India’s chief badminton coach Pullela Gopichand said special preparations will be in store for Sindhu and the rest of the Indian shuttlers for success in Tokyo.

“Our players haven’t done badly in the big events. So yeah, we’ll certainly have certain kinds of preparations to help our players do even better in the Olympics,” Gopichand said.

“Our first target is to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 then we will prepare our roadmap. Hope the qualification is done within April next year,” he said.

Coming back to Sindhu, she has a bit of interest in cricket as well.

“I have watched T20 cricket and IPL matches in Hyderabad. So yeah, I enjoy watching the game,” she said.

Sindhu’s favourite cricketer is India captain Virat Kohli and she was all praise for his fitness.

“I like Virat because he has been really hardworking and is of course a great player.

“His fitness regime is really good. Fitness is very important in everybody’s game today.

“From badminton to cricket, fitness is of utmost importance. No one can deny that,” Sindhu emphasised.

Boxing legend MC Mary Kom was also present at the Eden. Just for few minutes, she went out of the VIP box and was surrounded by fans.

“Sourav Ganguly invited me for the event and instantly I said yes.

“I enjoyed the game and hospitality,” she said.

Looking ahead to the Tokyo Olympics, the London Olympics bronze medallist said: “I am confident of bagging an Olympics berth,” she said.
