Neeraj Chopra will finally travel abroad. The javelin thrower, who is a Tokyo Olympic Games medal hopeful, will travel to France on Tuesday and stay in Europe till July 20. He will be flying to Tokyo directly from there.
“Granted visa to travel to France. I am very happy that I am getting a chance to compete in international competitions before Tokyo 2020,” Neeraj tweeted on Sunday.
“Yes, he will be travelling but things are still tentative. He has got a visa for France. The idea was to get him to EU somehow and then figure out the next course of action. We had a camp planned in Sweden earlier, but that got stalled as Neeraj did not get the visa. Now once he travels to France it will be easier for him to move to Sweden. He will be participating in some meets along the way,” a source told The Telegraph.
During a virtual media conference organised by the Sports Authority of India earlier this month, Neeraj had rued about lack of competitions abroad due to pandemic-induced travel restrictions.
Granted visa to travel to France. I am very happy that I am getting a chance to compete in international competitions before #Tokyo2020. I'm thankful to @PMOIndia @DrSJaishankar @KirenRijiju @IndiaSports @Media_SAI @afiindia for making this happen.
