ATK Mohun Bagan are on the ascent after recording back-to-back victories in ISL VIII. They are now third in the league table behind Mumbai City FC and Hyderabad FC.
Wednesday’s 2-1 win over FC Goa was a well-deserved one with Liston Colaco and Roy Krishna finding their names on the scoresheet. Colaco’s 25-yard stunning goal against his former club was surely one of the best in ISL history.
The ATK Mohun Bagan forward already has five goals against his name, the highest by an Indian this season. “There were a lot of things going on in my mind before the game against my former club. I wanted to score in this match... I am satisfied with the goal and am enjoying all the adulation. The feeling of scoring against my old team was different. Since we have also won the match it was a double bonanza for me,” Colaco said on Thursday.
Colaco revealed he was pleasantly surprised by the turn of the ball, which went past rival goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh, like a bullet. “People are saying it was world class and a contender for the best goal of ISL VIII. Frankly, when I took the shot, I did not think it would take such a turn. When I saw it on the telly later on Wednesday, I was thrilled.
“This is the best of the five goals I have scored so far. I practise such long shots at training sessions so it was not a fluke goal,” he said.
The India international also dedicated the strike to his mother Nazrana.
Colaco said Roy Krishna’s return to form augurs well for ATK Mohun Bagan. “Roy scored a great goal. The best thing is that he has started scoring again. He is a great footballer,” Colaco said of his teammate.
“We are moving match by match. It’s a long league. The most important thing is to maintain the winning mentality. Our next match is against Hyderabad FC (on January 5). We have to be more careful since they have a very strong team.”
