The member-associations of the All India Football Federation have suggested that 25 per cent of the executive committee be represented by former players when the new body is formed after the elections.

The proposal was made at a meeting of the Committee of Administrators on Saturday.

The draft constitution says that 33 per cent of the executive committee should have former footballers. Twenty-five per cent of the 24-member executive committee means six (four men and two women) former players would be in the committee.

The suggestions will be examined by the CoA in the coming days.

The meeting was attended by the Supreme Court-appointed CoA head, former top court judge Anil Ramesh Dave, his colleagues in the committee, former chief election commissioner SY Quraishi and former India skipper Bhaskar Ganguly, and representatives from Bengal (Indian Football Association), Delhi, Karnataka, Gujarat and Mizoram. Ranjit Bajaj of Delhi Football Club was also present as one of the petitioners. The Delhi Football Club had filed an application in the apex court, alleging illegal continuation of the Praful Patel-led executive committee despite its term expiring in December 2020.

“There is nothing wrong. The CoA can invite anyone to attend meetings,” an official said.

Quraishi said he was happy with the ways things are moving forward. “It was a fruitful meeting. Members gave their suggestions. We will examine them and submit them to the Supreme Court with the amended constitution,” Quraishi told The Telegraph.

He attended the meeting online as he was indisposed.
