Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe will be out for three weeks after sustaining a thigh injury, the Ligue 1 club said on Thursday, ruling him out of the first leg of their Champions league tie against Bayern Munich.

The 24-year-old limped off during the first half of PSG’s 3-1 win at Montpellier on Wednesday

PSG are due to play five matches from February 4-19, with the France international set to miss the Bayern clash as well as their French Cup last16 game against Olympique de Marseille.

“After undergoing tests, Kylian Mbappe suffered an injury to the left thigh at the level of the femoral biceps,” PSG said.

On Wednesday, Lionel Messi scored as Paris St Germain stretched their Ligue 1 lead to five points with a 3-1 win at Montpellier.

Mbappe, who also missed a penalty, held his left thigh as he was replaced after 20 minutes.

Following a lacklustre first half, PSG burst into life after the break with Fabian Ruiz, Messi and Warren Zaire-Emery finding the net to put them on 51 points from 21 games.

PSG, who had lost their two previous away games and were held to a last-gasp home draw by Stade de Reims on Sunday, were more compact on Wednesday and were rewarded in the 55th minute, when Ruiz volleyed home from Hugo Ekitike’s headed pass.

Barca extend lead

Barcelona extended their La Liga lead to eight points after Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski scored to earn them a hard-fought 2-1 win at Real Betis. Barca are top with 50 points, while Betis are sixth on 31 points. It took 65 minutes for Barcelona to break the deadlock with Raphinha tapping home from close-range before Lewandowski wwscored from a corner 15 minutes later.
