East Bengal toy with Wari Athletic Club, scores 5 goals for second time despite missed chances

Emami East Bengal raised their game by a few notches after the change of ends and pumped in five goals against Wari Athletic Club in a CFL Premier Division match at the club ground on Monday.

Dip Saha (53rd), Tanmay Das (70th), Avishek Kunjam (90+1, 90+5) and Aman CK (90+4) scored for the home side.

East Bengal could have won by a much bigger margin but failed to convert chances galore.

Kunjam himself could have found his name on the scoresheet five to six times. He finally made amends with an injury-time brace. Kunjam’s first was a long ranger from 25 yards.

Woodwork also denied East Bengal thrice. Wari missed a penalty in the first half.

This is the second time in as many matches that East Bengal have scored five goals. Last week they defeated Eastern Railway 5-1.

Sheikh Mohammed Aslam and Mohammed Ghouse, the two former Bangladesh players who wore the red and gold shirt in the early 90s, were present at the ground.

They are in town for the club’s Foundation Day celebrations on Tuesday.

In other matches, Kidderpore SC defeated Police AC 1-0, Rainbow AC accounted for BSS Sporting Club 2-1, Eastern Railway beat George
Telegraph 1-0 and West Bengal Police prevailed over Calcutta Customs 1-0. FCI held Calcutta Football Club to a 1-1 draw.
