By defeating archrivals Emami East Bengal in the Derby on Sunday, ATK Mohun Bagan gave themselves a chance to reach the knockout phase of the Durand Cup but now have their task cut out.

The Mariners must win their game against Indian Navy on Wednesday if they wish to advance. ATK Bagan have four points from three matches and are placed third in group B. Coach Juan Ferrando, however, is not keen to look into the equations.

“We won the Derby. But my philosophy is we must improve with every match,” he said.

“Indian Navy are a strong side and we face a must-win situation against them. We have wasted many opportunities in the last few matches. That needs to change.”

FC Goa out

Defending champions FC Goa bowed out after they held Sunil Chhetri-led Bengaluru FC (BFC) to a 2-2 draw in a Group A game. Phrangki Buam (53rd minute) and Lesly Rebello (64th) scoring to cancel out first-half goals by Chhetri (24th) and N Siva Sakthi (26th). BFC will play Mohammedan Sporting on September 2 to decide the Group A winners.
