Jhulan Goswami has not been included in the ODI leg of the India Women’s tour of Sri Lanka later this month even though the 39-year-old pacer had earlier expressed her desire to continue playing at the highest level.
The Harmanpreet Kaur-led 15-member squad was announced on Wednesday.
Since being ruled out of India’s must-win World Cup game versus South Africa earlier this year, Jhulan has been rigorously exercising as prescribed by the national team’s physiotherapist and also visited the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore last month to recover from her side strain.
She has been training for over a week at Eden Gardens’ indoor facilities under the supervision of Bengal’s bowling coach (at all levels) and former seamer Shib Shankar Paul.
“Injury or any related issue isn’t the reason behind Jhulan’s non-inclusion,” a BCCI source said. “It could be that the selectors feel younger players need to be given chances since it’s not an England or Australia tour.”
The Sri Lanka tour begins with three T20Is in Dambulla from June 23.
