Google will host a hardware-focussed event, which will take place on August 13. The company usually hosts its ‘Made by Google’ event in October and instead of New York City, this year’s event is taking place at the company’s headquarters in Mountain View, California.

The company hasn’t shared specific details about the upcoming announcements; the invite says the company will “showcase the best of Google AI, Android software and the Pixel portfolio of devices”. Going by the lineup of Google’s existing devices, we’re expecting to learn more about the Pixel 9, the next version of the Pixel Fold, a new Tensor chip, a third-gen Pixel Watch and perhaps an update to the Pixel Buds. Of course, there will be plenty to talk about machine learning-based features as well.

Tech enthusiasts could be treated to new AI features in Android 15, such as the expanded Circle-to-Search, real-time scam alerts and TalkBack.

Some of the rumours about the Pixel 9 Pro doing the rounds say it’ll come in black, white, green and pink colour options, feature a Tensor G4 chip, a 6.1-inch screen and that there could be an XL version of the phone with a larger 6.9-inch display. Bringing the event forward means there will be fewer pre-event leaks, which has been an issue for the Pixel lineup.

Meanwhile, Apple has announced its in-house AI — called Apple Intelligence — and it has been made with security in mind. There is a partnership with OpenAI but it doesn’t compromise the safety of users. When the next version of Apple’s mobile operating system is released later this year, the assistive features will be able to look through a phone’s texts and photos to find specific information based on a user’s prompts.

The Made by Google event will be streamed on August 13 at 10 am PT or 10.30pm IST.
