Fitness trackers have largely been unfit for the runway. Walking around the house or running around the park, the fitness band is a lovely step-tracking option but once evening wear is donned, the fitness tracker doesn’t really do justice in way of looks.
Fitbit, which has been a trusted wearable brand for long and is now owned by Google, is on a mission to make wrists appear well-dressed with the Luxe band. The Fitbit Luxe tracker is a sleeker version of previous Fitbit trackers that can be disguised to look like jewellery because of a wide range of band options.
The company has used an innovative design process called metal injection molding to create Luxe’s stainless steel case, making it perfect for a “diverse range of wrist sizes for 24/7 wear”. As far as trackers go, it indeed looks good, featuring a colour touchscreen surrounded by a stainless steel case.
Helping the cause of Luxe is the Health Metrics dashboard in the Fitbit app where users can identify changes which could be caused by increased stress or fatigue. With Luxe, you’ll also get six-months of Fitbit Premium for added support and deeper analysis of your data. With Premium, there will be access to 200-plus guided audio and video workouts from certified personal trainers and popular brands like Aaptiv, Barre3, Daily Burn, Obe and Popsugar.
Unlike other brands, the San Francisco HQ-ed company is positioning the product more as a holistic wellness tracker than just another fitness band, with two important verticals being stress and sleep. Fitbit’s Stress Management Score provides a daily assessment of your body’s ability to handle stress based on your activity levels, sleep and heart rate.
The Health Metrics dashboard offers a clear picture of your breathing rate, heart rate variability (HRV), resting heart rate (RHR), skin temperature variation and — coming soon — oxygen saturation (SpO2). The company’s mission finds support in Deepak Chopra, a pioneer of integrative medicine. “I regularly see my heart rate lower after doing a meditation session and over time, my heart rate variability trends have improved. Mindful Method makes a regular mindfulness practice easy and accessible — no matter whether you are learning how to begin or are interested in taking your mindfulness practice to the next level,” he has said.
Further stressing on the jewellery angle, Fitbit has partnered with Laguna Beach-based brand Gorjana for a special edition. Available in India soon, Luxe is priced at Rs 10,999 with six-months of Fitbit Premium free trial, after which you can either pay Rs 99 per month or Rs 999 per year. The Gorjana for Fitbit Luxe special edition will retail for Rs 17,999. Yes, there are smartwatches that you can buy for this money but what Fitbit goes big on is accuracy.
