Symbiosis Institute of Technology (SIT) Pune, one of the most eminent engineering institutions in the country, has announced the Global Immersion Programme (GIP), actively collaborating with around 20 partner universities worldwide and engaging in various academic and research initiatives. The institute is dedicated to fostering global competence among its students and faculty under the leadership of Dr. Ketan Kotecha, Director and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Head of the Internationalization Cell, Dr. Anindita Roy. The institute offers a host of engineering programs across the spectrum, for which aspiring students who have attempted the JEE/ASGEEE exam can apply via the official registration link.
Dr. Anindita Roy, Faculty of Engineering and Head of Internationalization Cell, SIT Pune, highlights the importance of practical exposure, saying, "We encourage our students to participate in the Global Immersion Programme (GIP), which includes a six-month Semester Abroad Programme and short-duration programs like summer schools, winter schools, industrial visits, and internships. These experiences are crucial for their personal and professional growth."
Providing Global Exposure for Broadening Horizons
The institute attracts a diverse student body from 26 different countries enrolling in undergraduate programs. In the academic year 2023–24, SIT Pune welcomed 86 international students. To smooth the transition to postgraduate studies abroad, SIT has established three Master’s progression programs:
- (4+1) with Loughborough University, UK; Aston University, UK; and National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), Taiwan.
- Dual degree programs, such as the B.Tech (2+2) in Mechanical Engineering with the University of East Anglia, UK, and B.Tech in Computer Science and Civil Engineering with Deakin University, Australia, will commence this academic year.
From 2019 to 2023, 88 SIT students visited countries, including Germany, the UK, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, and the Netherlands, under the GIP scheme. International students also joined SIT for short-term or semester-long programs from countries such as Oman, Ethiopia, and Germany under the Study India Programme or Semester Exchange Programme.
Faculty Achievements and Accreditations:
SIT's faculty is deeply involved in international research collaborations, resulting in over 300 research articles published in peer-reviewed international journals over the past four years. Faculty mobility is a crucial aspect of SIT’s internationalization efforts. About 74 foreign experts have visited SIT for sessions and workshops, while 23 SIT faculty members have traveled abroad for academic and research purposes in the last four years. Faculty at SIT are actively pursuing bilateral research grants worth 3 crores.
Dr. Ketan Kotecha, Director, SIT Pune, emphasizes the collaborative nature of research at SIT, stating, "Our faculty's active involvement in international research not only enhances their academic prowess but also contributes significantly to the global knowledge pool. The bilateral research grants and international co-supervisors reflect our commitment to collaborative innovation.”
Research scholars at SIT benefit from the expertise of international co-supervisors, with over 35 such collaborations currently in place. Through these initiatives, SIT embodies the spirit of 'Vasudhaiva kutumbakam' (the world is one family), enriching both students and faculty with a global perspective.
