The Creative Arts (TCA) that has been an establishment for creating, curating and producing artistic ventures as well as imparting training to the city’s youth in theatre and associated art forms for the past 20 years, has come up with a new art space at its Kalighat address. TCA now has three new studios called Artshiyana. Alongside its latest development as The Creative Arts Academy (TCAA), this new art space has been created out of the need and desire to build an inclusive space for artistes, where people of all genders, age groups, communities, economic and social backgrounds and those with special needs would feel welcome.

The passion project of theatre artiste and director Ramanjit Kaur, this new space within the three-storied TCAA building with its new studios was launched last month and has been designed as a space for hosting workshops, training sessions, rehearsals, residencies, exhibitions, shoots and performances of various kinds. This expanded space and identity of the TCA will be focussed on facilitating interdisciplinary and intra-disciplinary interactions and collaborations between artistes from across the globe.

“The Creative Arts has always been an arts organisation nurturing art in children and adults through training, creating and producing innovative pieces and collaborations with artistes from all over the world. I have started this with a mission to provide holistic training in theatre and its multiple genres. It is a labour of love. We not only have done award-winning shows but have trained several promising artistes as well,” said Ramanjit, founder and director, TCAA.

Explaining further about what the new art space has to offer to the art community, she said, “The space will facilitate training by masters in various fields, collaborations with national and international artistes, and create opportunities for people to engage with various art fields. We want everyone to make art a part of their lifestyle. We feel proud to announce our collaboration with the eminent masters in their fields, like Tanmoy Bose, Anjum Katyal, SV Raman, Ushoshi Sengupta, Debashree Bhattacharya, Shubha Bangur and Sonali Lahiri. We will offer training in theatre, music, creative writing, dance, creative movement, communication, arts management and arts at school.”

Talking about why such spaces are important for the artiste community, she said, “Every artiste needs a space to learn and nurture their craft, only then can they thrive. An arts space like this becomes significant for the whole community, as it reflects the culture, the thought and community interaction beyond borders. Besides ample facilities in the studio to support the learning of various art forms, we hope to create our Theatre Cafe on the terrace soon, which will be a space for young minds to have music jams, open mics and voice their thoughts. It has been a Herculean task to make this space and we hope corporate houses will find it their CSR activity to support the efforts of the artiste collective and make artistic endeavours happen.”
