⚫ It is laudable of the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) to have developed the Professor Shonku Park over almost two acres in tribute to legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray in his birth centenary year (“Litter dump turned to theme park”, published on May 7).

The park has additionally brought relief to residents of housing complexes living opposite to it as we are now spared from pollution and it has also removed a giant garbage dump from the spot.

Unfortunately, NKDA has failed to realise that this garbage dump has now shifted to a distance of only 200m, very much in the backyard of City Centre 2 and in front of other housing complexes in the area.

Crows and stray animals feast on this dump all day, dirtying and polluting the place. Flies and mosquitoes are additional hazards breeding here. NKDA should immediately tackle this issue before the new park draws flak for causing a mess at the doorsteps of adjacent housing complexes.
