The luxe and exclusive space has special suites that promise some of the best views of the city. We stayed at The Maidan Suite which has Victoria Memorial on one end, and endless views of the Calcutta greens as well as the racecourse and Vidyasagar Setu on the other. The colonial furniture will take you back to old Calcutta days, and even the bathrooms with ‘his’ and ‘her’ sinks and luxe toiletries, don’t disappoint.

Looking for a hermitage within the city? Look no further. The Glenburn Penthouse just off Russell Street is your idyllic luxury staycation space. The penthouse is the result of relentless efforts by the team of the Glenburn Tea Estate in Darjeeling, that’s also famous for its hospitality and is always houseful. It’s a niche property that’s very much within the city, but tucked away from chaos. The Telegraph spent a full-day soaking in the vibes of this space and here’s what we recommend for you and your bae, this Valentine‘s Day.

Right adjacent to the dining hall is this high tea and breakfast nook with expansive views. The checkered floors, white marble tables, arches around the perimeter all reminded us of the tea estate stay in Darjeeling. You’ll love soaking in the winter sun here.

The dining options promise an a la carte menu for those looking for just a meal rather than a staycation. This space is one of the most picturesque dining halls we have ever seen. From wallpaper that features royal palaces, to carefully curated furniture that all blends in harmony and the play of colours in the upholstery, all make this space that’s equally pretty in every corner.

The upper level, or the 9th floor has this hidden gem, the infinity pool that promises the best views in the city and is also used for date night/ proposal meal spaces. You can prebook a romantic candle-lit dinner for two, that’s sure to surprise bae.

The staycation began with an afternoon high tea that had delish titbits along with a selection of signature tea blends from The Glenburn Tea Estate. For winters do opt for the outdoor seating that promises the perfectly auburn gold sunset. For special occasions, you can even add champagne to your high tea mood.

Dinner was a special tasting menu that had multiple courses and was centred around deconstructed Bengali cuisine. The tastefully decorated dining hall and candle-lit tables added some extra charm to the dinner. You could spend some time soaking in the night-time views from the balcony taking in the sight of a well-lit Victoria Memorial in all its glory. We loved chef Shaun Kenworthy’s specially curated multiple-course menu that tied Calcutta to the world.
