“Take a picture,” they said. “It will be fun,” they said. But for Orhan Awatramani, aka Orry, it turned into a career. He is everywhere on social media, rubbing shoulders with Bollywood celebs and other famous personalities. From Janhvi Kapoor to Salman Khan, Nita Ambani to Ananya Panday, he’s been in the frame with many more. If your bucket list includes meeting celebs, Orry is probably living it. But the question remains — who is Orry and what does he do?
Understanding Orry
The Bollywood BFF with a quirky fashion style is actually a special projects manager at the Reliance Industries Limited, as per his LinkedIn profile. With around 856K followers on Instagram, he’s often labeled a social activist, although he admitted adding that title to his LinkedIn profile was “just for fun”. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Communication Design from Parsons School of Design in New York. His fashion influences trace back to his days at a boarding school in Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu, before college.
“While they allowed children to experiment with their looks, they did have some rules... you couldn’t wear mini skirts, you couldn’t come to school with a mohawk on your head and so on. Also, because it’s a boarding school, your parents have no say about what you’re wearing,” Orry told a fashion magazine.
Working hard or working smart?
Orry is many things, but most importantly, he’s a “liver”. #IYKYK! As for what he does for a living or where his earnings come from, it isn’t a simple answer. During one of his job interviews, when he was asked about it, Orry said, “I am a singer, a songwriter, a fashion designer, a creative director, a stylist, an executive assistant, a shopper and sometimes a football player. I feel life is about having dreams.” He also took up a lot of odd jobs in between, like being a waiter or an actor, but now he gets paid for clicking pictures.
“I get paid to get pictures clicked at the events with the pose that I do and post them,” he said in one of his interviews. Reportedly, his profits amount to almost Rs 20 to 30 lakhs a day.
When asked about working hard, he has said that he does, but on himself. He spends his time going to the gym, doing self-reflection, at yoga sessions and going for massages.
The celeb connect
So, what made him so famous? His camaraderie with Bollywood celebs. Orry shot to stardom when he shared a picture from Kylie Jenner’s house, with her. Since then, he’s been capturing and has been captured alongside numerous film industry celebrities — with Suhana Khan and Janhvi Kapoor being regular companions. Orry explained how many of these peers were his school and college mates, and these enduring friendships are what he cherishes the most.
