In Kolkata, it turns out, you can always get what you want – if you look for it.
The Rolling Stones’ frontman Mick Jagger, who is on a visit to Kolkata, dropped in at heritage restaurant Trincas, on Park Street, with his girlfriend Melanie and youngest son Deveraux, on Monday evening around 7.30pm. The singer attended England’s final match against Pakistan at the Eden Gardens on Saturday and took in the sights of the streets of Kolkata on the eve of Kali Puja.

The best of both worlds met on Saturday, as singer Usha Uthup shared a video of her singing the band’s superhit number Satisfaction, and Jagger joining her at the Eden Gardens.
Speaking to My Kolkata, Uthup said, "I was so excited to meet the legendary Mick Jagger. Snehasish da (Snehasish Ganguly) was kind enough to arrange my visit to Eden Gardens on the day of the match. We know each other, but I was really looking forward to interacting with him. A lovely gentleman, he apologised for being late to the match, as soon as he walked in. We immediately struck a chord and it was lovely chatting with him.”

Uthup, who is one of the pioneers of western rock music in India, considers The Rolling Stones to be one of the strongest influences on Kolkata’s and India's rich tradition of rock bands and musical landscape.
"Mick was fascinated to learn that I have been singing his songs for the past five decades and that their work has been praised highly by people in India. I shared my experience of singing his song, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, over the years at Trincas. That's where he probably got the idea to check the place out. We had planned to play the song as soon as he walked in at The Eden Gardens. The arrangements had already been made. In a five minute conversation, we caught up, and it was amazing talking to him about my years at Trincas, and the kind of impact his songs have had. He has been an absolute icon for all artistes who have grown up with music from other parts of the world, like me. He loved singing the song and was thrilled to receive a kantha scarf from me," she added.
