DJ and music producer Arcane’s, aka Shiladitya Bose, new extended play, My Mind, is now available. Created over four months, it has the lyrics of a love song and also the ability to make all ages groove on the dance floor. During a t2 chat, Arcane said: “I draw inspiration from everything around me, including city lights, bustling city noises and the people I meet. Being born into a family of musicians, I’ve had the opportunity to interact with some of the greatest, like Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and L. Subramaniam.”
As Arcane shifted to electronic music while growing up, he has shared the stage with artistes like Artbat, Armin van Buuren, Sama Abdulhadi, Ace Ventura and many more. He strongly believes that “music should make you feel something”. Arcane is one of the fastest growing names and My Mind is performing well in India and abroad. Excerpts from our interview.
What makes My Mind special?
The track is made in a way that sits with all kinds of listeners. It is a seamless, powerful, yet melodic experience that transcends the confines of ordinary dance music. It was a challenge, but I was determined to deliver something unique. My previous tracks were in a different direction but my latest single is a fresh sound for the dance floor. It’s a song that you can listen to while going to work, and also while you’re at the club.
Arcane never fails to keep the dance floor vibrating
The single has been well-received....
I am overwhelmed with the response that My Mind got because, initially, I was very sceptical. It went into the coveted Beatport Top 10 worldwide on their main chart, people began to share Reels with it. Global dance music pages started posting about it and I am grateful and elated.
What was the target audience you had in mind when you were creating My Mind?
There is never a set target audience for music. There are people as young as 80 years old who I’ve seen dancing their hearts out on the dance floor and I’ve also seen 22-year-olds not enjoying themselves.
Where can we listen to the song?
It has been released worldwide on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube music.
How is Arcane creating space for himself?
Arcane is my favourite brainchild. When I first started working on it, I implemented things that I’ve learnt over the years as a musician. My idea was to seamlessly blend Afro music with a bass-heavy undertone. My sound is melodic, groovy and easy on the ears. You will never see a single sad or bored person at an Arcane show. My main focus is building a connection through music.
What are Arcane’s milestones till date?
Before starting Arcane, I had another project called Mr. Bose. It was quite rudimentary in the beginning because I had nobody to really guide me in this space so I had to build everything from scratch. I went on to release my first song on Sony Music Worldwide, then played alongside some of the biggest artistes in the world at various festivals. When I transitioned to Arcane I wanted to take that forward and thus began my journey towards creating my own audience. My tracks are on the top 100 charts across the globe.
Where do you see Arcane in the next five years?
I see myself creating, evolving and experimenting with various styles and collaborating with diverse artistes. Undoubtedly, the dream is to take this around the world.
