A youth has complained that a group of men in a car blocked the app cab he was travelling in, after the driver of his cab honked at the other vehicle twice, and repeatedly assaulted him, leaving him with a fractured nose.

Police said on Sunday the accused men have been arrested and charged under various Indian Penal Code sections, including the one on causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons.

The complainant has written on his Facebook timeline that he was travelling in an app cab through Sarat Bose Road towards Park Street around 2.30am on March 10 when the incident happened.

A car was moving right in front of the app cab.

“The app cab driver honked at the car twice and suddenly before Minto Park, the car blocked us and then 4-5 people came out of the car, surrounded me and the driver and started hitting us with their hands and belts continuously,” he has written in the social media post.

The men fled, leaving the complainant with a bleeding nose.

“I called my brothers who took me to the hospital and the reports showed that my nose had a fracture because of the belt buckle,” he has written.

He also lodged a complaint with Bhowanipore police station. He mentioned in the complaint the registration number of the car in which he said the assaulters were travelling.

On Sunday, an officer said the accused were identified with the help of CCTV footage and the information about the vehicle. They were summoned to the police station and arrested.

“Initially, we had started a case under IPC sections on wrongful restraint and causing grievous hurt. But after receiving the medical reports, Section 326 (which deals with the offence of causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon) was added,” the officer said.

Police said the accused and the complainants are businessesmen.
