On this day East Indiaman Phoenix, sailing for the British East India Company, had reached Diamond Harbour.
This was its third voyage. It had sailed from Madras, but a sudden squall and contrary winds had prevented it from reaching earlier.
On December 15, it was at Saugor (Sagar). On December 25, it reached Cox’s Island.
On August 23, 1791, it was at Kedgeree (Khejuri, Midnapore).
In October, it had carried “450 sepoys”, officers, rice, paddy, gram, doll, and gee for the army on the Malabar coast. The soldiers and the cargo were dropped at Madras, after which it sailed towards Bengal.
In its last and seventh voyage it was sailing for coastal trade in India. It got lost and its fate is unknown.
