Writer, translator and civil servant Nobin Chandra Das passed away on this day. He was known for his translation of Sanskrit literary works into Bengali, in poetry.

He was born in Chittagong (now in Bangladesh). He taught law at Chittagong College and later joined the civil service and was posted as deputy magistrate of Rangpur.

He translated Sanskrit works such as Raghuvansham, Sishupalvadha, and Kiratarjuna. Other books written by him include Akash Kusum Kavya and Shokagiti.

He was given the titles “Poet Gunakar”, “Vidyapati” and “Kavyaratnakar”.

He edited two journals while studying at Presidency College. His brother Sarachchandra was a Tibetan language expert and traveller.
