UK, and India pledge to fight cyber security challenges jointly

The event included lectures, speeches and panel discussions on several topics including online harassment and legal issues to tackle cyber crimes

The British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata on Monday organised a special conference titled UK-India Cooperation towards tackling Cyber Security Challenges.

Along with creating awareness, both India and the UK pledged to tackle the challenges of cyber security through joint efforts. The conference was hosted in partnership with the Cyber Peace Foundation and the Jadavpur Association of International Relations in Kolkata.

Along with Peter Cook, the acting British deputy high commissioner to Kolkata, Dominic Gillan, first secretary, Cyber Programmes, British High Commission, New Delhi, Vineet Kumar, founder and global president, Cyber Peace Foundation and Babul Supriyo, IT and electronics minister, Government of West Bengal, were present.

The event included lectures, speeches and panel discussions on several issues of cyber security, including tackling challenges and creating opportunities, online harassment and bullying and combating cyber crimes etc.

During his speech, Cook said the UK and West Bengal government should strive together to tackle global cyber security challenges. “Cyber security is a global challenge and we must collaborate with actors at the local level including the police to thwart cyber-attacks. The UK, India and West Bengal are working together to tackle the vast challenges of cyber security and harness the opportunities it creates,” he added.

Dominic Gillan said, “Our Prime Ministers have jointly announced an enhanced cyber security partnership between the two countries. We are working closely with industry, academia and law enforcement towards a whole-of-society approach to increasing our mutual cyber resilience.”
