Two more persons have been arrested in connection with the firing at the Ballygunge office of a coal merchant earlier this month.
Rishav Kumar Raj, 25, and Mohit Kumar Jaiswal, 20 - both residents of Deoghar in Jharkhand -- were arrested from an area under Kempegowda International Airport police station in Bangalore on Saturday.
“Rishav is the main man who was carrying out the extortion racket of gangster Aman Sahoo, who is in jail. Mohit is Rishav’s associate,” said an officer of Kolkata police’s detective department.
Both were brought to Kolkata on transit remand.
Sahoo is a Jharkhand-based gangster who is wanted in multiple extortion cases and is lodged at Pakur jail in Jharkhand.
Five other persons were earlier arrested in connection with the firing on January 8.
All accused have been booked under IPC sections related to extortion and criminal conspiracy.
On January 8, two men had walked into a six-storey building on Sarat Bose Road that houses the office of the coal merchant and fired a bullet. No one was injured.
The police said CCTV footage showed two people in jeans and jackets entering the building and taking the stairs to reach the second floor. They are also seen coming out and leaving on a bike.
