Two Bengal youths conquered Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro on February 5, 2023. Abir Hudait from Medinipur and Jagabandhu Manna from Howrah are IT professionals for whom mountaineering expeditions have been a big part of their lives. The duo, who consider themselves trekkers and not mountaineers, scaled Nepal’s Island Peak in October 2022. The two have also trekked together at the Chadar trek in Ladakh, Kang Yatse and Everest Base camp trek.

Their Kilimanjaro expedition began in January 2023 with their first stop at Tanzania. After spending a few days at Arusha, the two, accompanied by a local guide, Hudait and Manna started their journey from Machame gate on February 1. They reached Uhuru Peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, on February 5 at 5.50am.

The trekking duo have completed a Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC) from HMI Darjeeling in April 2022 and believe that their prior trekking experiences helped them with their laudable Kilimanjaro expedition.
