Trinamul Congress leader Kuntal Ghosh, who is in custody in connection with alleged irregularities in school recruitments, said on Thursday the money collected from candidates in exchange for jobs was with the “wife” of Gopal Dalapati, whose name has emerged in the recruitment case.
Dalapati, who was earlier arrested by Delhi Police in connection with a default scam and whose name has cropped up during the investigation into the alleged irregularities in school recruitments in Bengal, was summoned by the CBI on Wednesday.
He allegedly failed to turn up before officers of the central investigating agency. He has been quizzed by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the recruitment case.
The Telegraph could not contact Dalapati for his reaction to the allegations made by Ghosh. Dalapati’s phone was switched off on Thursday evening.
Ghosh, who was arrested by the ED and shifted to CBI custody earlier this week, was remanded in judicial custody on Thursday.
While being taken out of the Alipore court on Thursday, he named a woman who he said had the money collected from candidates who got jobs illegally and identified her as the “wife” of Gopal Dalapati.
CBI officers said they had come across evidence of money deposit in the account of a woman who lived with Dalapati as his “partner.”
“We are probing her involvement. Money has been deposited in her bank account. We are not ruling out the possibility that the money is the proceeds of the crime related to irregular recruitments,” said a CBI officer.
CBI officers said the woman was a model by profession.
Tapas Mondal, who was president of an association of West Bengal’s 625 private colleges offering bachelors of education and diploma in elementary education courses, and Niladri Ghosh, who allegedly acted as a middleman in collecting money from job aspirants, were also produced in the court during the day.
The lawyers representing all three accused submitted bail petitions. The prayers were rejected.
Sk Mahadi Nawaz, who appeared for Kuntal Ghosh and Niladri Ghosh, said his clients were “innocent”. “Our bail prayers were turned down and the accused have been sent to judicial remand till March 9,” said Nawaz.
