The first cave-in happened around 5pm, when a portion of the boundary wall of a three-storey dilapidated building collapsed at 105 Cotton Street in Posta.

The second was reported around the same time from Jorabagan Street, where a portion of the roof of an abandoned godown collapsed.

The third was reported from Clive Row, where a portion of a sun-shade collapsed on the third floor of a four-storey abandoned office building.

“No one was injured in any of the incidents. But such buildings are a real cause of concern for the safety of the people who live in and around them,” said a senior officer.

According to Kolkata Municipal Corporation records, there are at least 3,000 such “dangerous” buildings that need to be pulled down or repaired immediately.
