“The total weight of the recovered gold is 5,100 gram that has a market value of Rs 2.85 crore. The gold was missing from Gupta’s office in Posta,” said an officer in the detective department of Kolkata police.

The police said the trio, identified as Roop Kishore Kushwaha of Aligarh, Sushil Kumar from Meerut and Karan Verma of Ghaziabad, had executed the crime and fled to Uttar Pradesh.

A senior officer in Lalbazar said one employee of Gupta’s office has also been detained for interrogation.

Gupta, a resident of Alipore, murdered at his office on Shibtala Street in Posta. The cops suspected that he was strangled. His face was soaked in blood.

One of the employees was the first to spot the body. He immediately called Posta police station.

“We got some vital clues from the CCTV footage found . Then, we used human intelligence to locate them,” said an officer.

The trio that has been booked under charges of murder, robbery and criminal conspiracy would be brought to Kolkata on transit remand.

Investigators said the businessman was killed with the sole intention of robbing the shop. However, the possible role of anyone who had knowledge about the whereabouts of the victim and the time when he would be alone, was being probed, the officer said.
