Three arrested from Narkeldanga for alleged involvement in lynching case

At least three persons were arrested on Friday for their alleged involvement in a suspected lynching case in the city's Narkeldanga area, police said.

The body of a youth, identified as Sheikh Shamim, was found floating in a pond on East Road on Thursday, after which his mother lodged a complaint with the Narkeldanga police station, they said.

The post-mortem report revealed that he was badly beaten up, which resulted in his death, a senior police officer said.

"We tracked the three accused with the help of the deceased's mobile number. We are questioning them and further investigation is underway," he added.

Vehicle in flames

A three-wheeler that a physically challenged person was riding caught fire on Jatindra Mohan Avenue, near Sovabazar Metro station, on Friday morning. Police said one fire tender extinguished the flames. No one was injured, the police said.

Found hanging

A 30-year­old woman was found hanging from the ceiling of a room on the first floor of a three-storey residential building on Kalikumar Mazumdar Road in Survey Park on Thursday night. Mamoni Basu was taken to Baghajatin State General Hospital where she was declared dead. No suicide note was found, police said.
