Swami Aniruddhananda joined the order in 1967 at the Math and Mission’s New Delhi centre and was initiated by Swami Vireshwarananda in 1977. Over his long association, Swami Aniruddhananda served several centres, including the ones in New Delhi, Narendrapur, Gol Park, Vrindaban, Ranchi Sanatorium, Purulia and Belur Math. He was in charge of Swami Vivekananda’s ancestral house. Math insiders said Swami Aniruddhananda was instrumental in starting the Math and Mission’s centre in Shimla.

As a monk with a warm smile, Swami Aniruddhananda knew many senior officers in the state government and remained the liaison officer for Belur Math for several years.

Over the past few years, he was living a retired life at Belur Math.

On Saturday, around 9pm, his mortal remains were cremated at Belur Math.
