The police said his body could not be found till late on Tuesday evening.

Officers of North Port police station said they have registered a missing diary.

“We cannot start a formal case unless the boy or his body is found. We have circulated his photograph and details across all the police stations along the river so that we get the alerts if there is any development,” said a senior officer of Kolkata police’s Port division on Tuesday.

Sayed’s family on Monday submitted a written complaint against the friends he was last seen with, alleging that Sayed was called from his home and not allowed to complete his meal.

The police said they were yet to draw any formal case in the matter as the allegations made against the other students were “non-specific”.

“We are examining the students who were with him and would take action if anything suspicious is found,” said a senior officer.
