The rain appeared to have abated at one stage on Tuesday evening. But in the night, some pockets received sharp spells again.

The sky started clearing on Wednesday morning.

The next two to three days in Kolkata are likely to be drier. “There is always a possibility of intermittent rain but heavy rain is unlikely,” said a Met official.

The depression that triggered the latest wet spell is now a well-marked low pressure over Madhya Pradesh. On Tuesday, the monsoon trough passed right over Kolkata, triggering the downpour.

On Wednesday, the trough moved down.

There is a possibility of the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal around the weekend, the Met official said.

“It is still too early to predict if it will intensify into a low-pressure area, or its exact position,” the official said.
