Candidates aspiring to teach in government-aided primary schools (from classes I to V) started submitting their applications online on Friday for writing the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) scheduled for December 11.

The applications can be submitted till November 3. The state primary education board through a notification on Friday announced that the online application forms would be available on two websites: www.wbbpe.org and htpps://wbbprimaryeducation.org.

The applicants have to click on the link “Online application for Teachers’ Eligibility Test-2022 for Class I to V” to submit the forms, said a board official. The board had in late September announced that they would hold TET on December 11 to start the process of appointing teachers, which has remained stalled following allegations of irregularities in the recruitment process, leading to the arrest of previous board president Manik Bhattacharya by the Enforcement Directorate earlier this week.

The TET for primary schools was last held in January 2021, before the Assembly polls. “The notification was announced in 2017 and the examination was held four years later. This time the notification was published on September 30 and the examination is going to be held in less than two-and-a-half months. That shows the board is committed to a fast-track recruitment process,” said Goutam Paul, president of the ad hoc committee set up by the government to run the board following the removal of Bhattacharya by Calcutta High Court in June.

An education department official said they were looking forward to carrying out the recruitment process at the earliest because the exercise suffered a jolt following allegations of irregularities in appointments made so far. “Since the recruitment has come to a standstill, the 9,600- odd candidates who had cleared the primary TET held in January 2021 could not be appointed. We want to start the recruitment process by conducting a TET...,” the official said.

“That is the only way forward”. The president of the adhoc committee said the board was soon going to come up with an information booklet on TET 2022. “This booklet will contain the syllabus of the TET, sample questions and the sample answers. We want to help the candidates in whatever way possible,” Paul said. The board had on September 29 uploaded a notice stating that it would hold an interview for those who had written the TET in 2015 and 2021.
