The city police have sought Jadavpur University's internal committee report on the death of the 17-year-old student who was allegedly thrown off the second-floor balcony of the JU Main Hostel on August 10.
The report, sought from officiating VC Buddhadeb Sau, was tabled before JU’s anti-ragging committee on September 15.
“We have carried out an independent probe. But there is no harm in corroborating our findings with that of the committee,” said an officer.
"The report has been sent to the anti-ragging squad for examination. The squad is a statutory body, which according to UGC regulations, should have probed the student's death. But an internal committee was constituted. I was not VC when the committee was formed," Sau told Metro.
“Once the squad gives its opinion, it will be tabled before the executive council. If they council says, the report can be shared with police."
Sau is a member of squad.
Sources said the squad had on August 13 decided they would not probe the death as a committee with some of its members had been formed.
