Two more persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of state fire department employee Snehasish Roy in Lake Town last week, taking the number of people rounded up in the case to five.
Sagar Haldar and Tanmoy Pal, alias Rahul, were arrested early on Sunday from Ghola in North 24-Parganas, police said.
“Haldar was the mastermind. He had hired professional killers to eliminate Roy because of business rivalry,” said an officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate.
Ayush Sharma, 18, and Afroz Ansari, 22, were picked up on Friday and Akash Mullick, 22, was arrested on Saturday for the murder.
“Haldar runs a business of supplying stone chips and also a lottery business. Roy was involved in Haldar’s business and the two apparently picked a fight over some business matters. Business dispute apart, we are not ruling out the possibility of personal enmity behind the murder,” the officer said.
Roy was shot dead in front of his house in Lake Town on Thursday afternoon, minutes after he returned home with his daughter from her school. Roy was parking his two-wheeler when someone called out his name. As he turned, he was shot in his chest.
In June last year, an attempt was made on Roy’s life in front of his then workplace, Dum Dum fire station. He was shifted to New Town fire station after that.
The police said they were trying to find out whether the people arrested for the murder were also responsible for last year’s attempt on Roy’s life.
