A man who was headed to Bangalore with his mother was arrested at Calcutta airport on Friday evening after four bullets were found in his hand baggage.

Mohammed Ghalib, from Nawadah district in Bihar, was about to board an AirAsia flight when the bullets were found in his hand baggage at the airport scanning machine, a CISF officer said.

After the bullets were spotted in the scanner, Ghalib was asked to open his bag. “We found four bullets of 7.65mm caliber. We asked where he got them and why he was carrying them but he could not furnish any valid paperwork for the ammunition. He claimed that he did not know that he was carrying them,” the officer said.

He was detained by CISF personnel and questioned before being handed to the airport police station. A senior officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said Ghalib said he was travelling to Bangalore with his mother Abda Khatun for her treatment. On Saturday, he was produced at a district court and remanded to police custody.
