The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has appointed block supervisors and coordinators to allow quick dissemination of information and reporting of problems. NKDA staffers have been nominated to keep in touch with block residents’ welfare association office-bearers.
“We have a robust public grievance management system. There is a 24-hour helpline. Every complaint is docketed and 95 per cent complaints are closed within time. Even then, we feel things should reach us before they escalate into a grievance. The whole of New Town has been divided into 27 zones. For each zone, a block supervisor has been named and his contact number has been shared with the representatives of the blocks he has to look after. Three co-ordinators will take weekly reports from these 27 block supervisors and apprise senior officials according to the hierarchy created,” said a senior NKDA official.
“We want to be proactive rather than wait for complaints to be lodged. The members of the team have been trained and will operate as one-point contacts for residents to the NKDA. They will report to the engineers of their own accord if they spot streetlights not working or a stretch of the road in disrepair. Since they have been chosen from our manpower present in the area they can also keep track of the progress of the work,” he added.
The monitoring system has been put on hold temporarily due to the panchayat election and will resume from July 7.
