National Mission for Clean Ganga sanctions two new projects in Kolkata

Decision taken at executive committee meeting on Wednesday

The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has approved a sewerage management project in Garden Reach and installation of five new sluice gates and refurbishment of 28 existing ones along the bank (eastern & western) of Beliaghata Circular Canal at the 44th meeting of the Executive Committee on Wednesday.

The decision was taken at the 44th meeting of the NMCG Executive Committee on Wednesday under the chairmanship of its director general G Asok Kumar.

The sewerage management project for construction of a new 65 MLD STP at Garden Reach in Kolkata was okayed at an estimated cost of Rs 275.07 crore. The construction and refurbishment of the sluice gates will cost around Rs 4.25 crore.

The 13 projects sanctioned by the Centre, including two in Kolkata, have been pegged around Rs 818 crore, the Jal Shakti Ministry said.

The other projects include geo-mapping in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and the NCT of Delhi, sewerage management in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and riverfront development works in Uttarakhand among others.
