Mohammad Rizwan Ansari, the 23-year-old who survived after the scooter he was riding was hit by a Mercedes Benz in the Maidan area on Sunday, is recuperating and is worried about cousin Mohammad Faizan Ansari, unaware that he is dead.
Rizwan’s family told Metro on Monday that they were yet to inform him that Faizan could not survive the crash.
“He is asking again and again about Faizan. He is worried about his cousin. We have not told him yet (about Faizan’s death),” said Rizwan’s father Mohammad Firoz Ansari.
Rizwan, who works in a soft drink company in Taratala, Faizan and a friend were riding a scooter on their way to the Maidan to play cricket from Metiabruz on Sunday morning when they were hit by the Mercedes on Kidderpore Road, near the South gate of Fort William.
Rizwan fractured his right leg in the crash.
Faizan, 19, who was driving the scooter died on the spot. He was a second-year student at Hari Mohan Ghosh College in Garden Reach.
The other pillion-rider — a 15-year-old boy, who is in Class IX — is also recuperating from his injuries, Ansari said.
Police said the Mercedes Benz was being driven at a high speed when it hit the scooter.
The two men who were in the car — Imran Ali Mullick and Faizan Rahi — have
been arrested and charged under IPC Sections 304 (part II) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder with the knowledge of consequences of his or her action), Section 185(B) of the motor vehicles act (driving under the influence of a drug to such an extent as to be incapable of exercising proper control over the vehicle) and other charges.
Mullick, who runs an automobile parts showroom in Park Circus, was at the wheel, the police said. Both are in police remand.
The police said their blood samples will be sent for forensic tests to ascertain the
nature of drugs which they are suspected to have consumed.
“Mullick and Rahi were returning from New Town when the accident happened,” said an officer.
