A woman was arrested on the charge of attempting to murder her teenage daughter at their Haridevpur home on Monday by trying to set her room ablaze.
However, during the investigation, the police apparently suspected that the daughter was misleading them and trying to frame her mother. The girl, a minor, has been detained, officers said.
Based on the complaint of the minor, officers of Haridevpur police station arrested her mother on the charge of trying to set the daughter’s room on fire with the intention to kill her.
“The daughter submitted purported evidence showing her mother’s phone chat with her friend apparently conspiring to kill her (the daughter),” said an officer.
The girl’s mother was arrested on Monday. Based on her statements, a man was arrested in Chandernagore.
However, during further investigation on Tuesday, the police said they had a suspicion that the girl could be misleading them.
“Investigation has so far indicated the complicity of the complainant as well...,” said deputy commissioner (south-west) Saumya Roy. The girl will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Wednesday.
Police sources said prima facie evidence had been found that the girl had misled the police with purportedly fake evidence and lodged a false complaint.
An officer said they would examine all the persons related to the case.
