The city is likely to receive light to moderate rain over the next two or three days, the Alipore Met office said on Tuesday.

According to the Met office, because of the presence of a cyclonic circulation over Bangladesh, Kolkata and coastal Bengal are likely to receive the rain.

Around 60mm of rain over 24 hours is considered moderate.

The monsoon trough, an imaginary line joining all the low-pressure points across the country, has moved towards north Bengal and so the region is likely to receive more rain than the south.

The Met Office forecast one or two spells of rain or thundershowers for Wednesday in Kolkata. The maximum and minimum temperatures will likely remain around 33 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius respectively.

The maximum temperature on Tuesday was 32.7 degrees, one degree above normal. The minimum temperature was 28.5 degrees, two degrees above normal. The maximum relative humidity was 94 per cent while the minimum relative humidity was 71 per cent.
