Meet members of new Kolkata Municipal Corporation board

Three fresh faces and a comeback

The new Kolkata Municipal Corporation board will have three new faces and one who was a mayoral council member earlier but not in the last board.

Trinamul chief Mamata Banerjee announced the names on Thursday.

Firhad Hakim will be the mayor for the second time and Atin Ghosh the deputy mayor. The mayoral council members in the last board who retained their position this time, too, are Debabrata Majumdar, Debasish Kumar, Avijit Mukherjee, Swapan Samaddar, Ram Pyare Ram, Tarak Singh and Amiruddin (Bobby).

Mitali Banerjee, 55

Ward: 99

Area: Baghajatin, Ramgarh, Gangulybagan

Councillor since: 2010

Education: BA

Political experience: Was mayoral council member in charge of education between 2010 and 2015. Dropped in 2015 and again given a portfolio this time.

Other experience: Runs a social welfare organisation named Srijak.

Area: Tangra

Councillor since: 2015. In the last term, he represented Ward 52

Education: MBA from IIM Calcutta

Political experience: Saha, son of Trinamul MLA Swarnakamal Saha, was advisor, information technology, in the last civic board.

Other experience: He was the product marketing head at Wipro.

Councillor since: 2010

Education: Higher secondary

Political experience: Has been in politics since his student days. He could not complete his bachelor’s course as he got involved in politics, he said.

Other experience: An owner of Bypass Dhaba on EM Bypass. He has interests in multiple businesses.

Councillor since: 2015

Education: BCom

Political experience: Brother of Trinamul’s state president Subrata Bakshi, Sandip was a member of Chhatra Parishad. He said he entered active politics when Priya Ranjan Das Munshi was the MP from South Calcutta in the 70s.

Other experience: He was deputy director of the Sports Authority of India.

Other experience: Played in the Kolkata football league. Now runs a newspaper distributorship and organises the Barisha Club Durga Puja.
