“He had introduced himself as the son-in-law of a Trinamul MP from Bengal and claimed he would get the complainant a government job. The allegation is he took Rs 4 lakh from the complainant. However, when he failed to get him a job, the complainant reported the matter,” said an officer of Anandapur police station.

Investigators said Das, originally from Thakurpukur, had rented an apartment along the Bypass and would allegedly flaunt his beacon-fitted car to pretend to be a senior government official. The police said Das once took the complainant to Nabanna and claimed he had “highly placed contacts” there.

Apart from a real estate business, Das has claimed to be the owner of a restaurant and said he was attached to the film industry, cops said. The police are yet to verify the claims.

Das was produced before Alipore court on Friday.
