Lt Gen RP Kalita takes over as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of army eastern command

He assumed office after paying homage to martyrs at Vijay Smarak

Lt Gen RP Kalita took over as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the army’s eastern command on Tuesday.

He assumed office after paying homage to martyrs at Vijay Smarak, followed by guard of honour at the Garrison battalion parade ground.

Lt Gen Manoj Pande preceded Lt Gen Kalita as the GoC-in-C of the eastern command from June 2021 to January 2022. Lt General Pande has been appointed as the vice chief of army staff.

Lt Gen Kalita is from Rangia, Assam. Prior to this, he was the director general of manpower, planning and personnel services in the ministry of defence.

Commissioned into 9 Kumaon in 1984, Lt Gen Kalita has operational experiences in Sri Lanka, Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast.
