KMC footbridge
A chunk of concrete came off from the underbelly of a footbridge connecting two offices of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation — on SN Banerjee Road and Hogg Street — late on Friday. A KMC official said the bridge, which runs above Hogg Street in New Market, has been closed pending checks. The bridge is used by officials and visitors to the two KMC offices.
Birth at station
A passenger gave birth to a boy at Howrah station on Friday night, after getting off a train from Bangalore, said railway officials. The woman arrived at Howrah station on the 12864 Yesvantpur-Howrah Express. “She felt intense labour pain after alighting. RPF constables called the Meri Saheli Team (set up for security of women passengers) and also informed higher officials for medical assistance,” said an Eastern Railway spokesperson. “The newborn and the mother were later shifted to hospital. Both are in good health.”
