Coldest day
The minimum temperature on Friday morning was 14.5 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal, making it the coldest day of the season so far. The mercury slid below 10 degrees in Birbhum, Paschim Bardhaman and Purulia, the Met office said. Met officials attributed the slide to the free flow of northwesterly winds from Kashmir. “The temperature is expected to further dip on Saturday,” said an official.
Tribute
Lt Gen R.P. Kalita, the eastern army commander, took part in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the 1971 liberation war of Bangladesh at Fort William on Friday. As many as 29 Mukti Joddhas with their families were present as part of a delegation from Bangladesh on the occasion.
